Bosch is giving its chip business its own division. From Jan. 1, 2028, semiconductor activities will be bundled in a new Semiconductors division, the company says. It will stay inside the Mobility business sector but split from Mobility Electronics, which will keep control units and power electronics for vehicles.
The target
Bosch wants 5 billion euros in semiconductor revenue by 2030. On its semiconductor site the company cites a McKinsey estimate that generative AI alone could need up to 3.6 million extra wafers a year by 2030.
«Semiconductors are the linchpin of our connected world and a key success factor for all of Bosch's business fields,» said Markus Heyn, head of Bosch Mobility, as quoted by electrive.
Where it wants to grow
electrive lists industrial automation, control of humanoid robots and components for AI data centres as new growth areas, alongside cars, smartphones and appliances. Bosch will also open more of its fabs to outside customers as a foundry. Erik Rein, who runs the business, pointed to MEMS sensors, silicon carbide chips and ASICs as core strengths.
Plants
electrive says Bosch has invested about 3 billion euros in its Dresden and Reutlingen plants in recent years and about $2 billion in Roseville, California. It also holds 10% of the ESMC chip consortium in Dresden.
