BYD's third-quarter profit grew 28%, but it fell short of what analysts expected. Net profit attributable to shareholders was 10.02 billion yuan (about $1.5 billion) for July through September, the Chinese automaker said in a filing on Thursday, Oct. 29, 2026, Reuters and Electrek reported. Three brokerages polled by Reuters had expected 11.4 billion to 12.95 billion yuan.

Key numbers

  • Revenue: 221.5 billion yuan, up 13.6%, ending four straight quarters of declines, Reuters said.
  • Sales: 1,323,065 vehicles in Q3, up 18.7%, based on BYD's monthly filings, Electrek said.
  • Exports: 550,704, up 137%, or 42% of sales. Everything else, mostly China, fell about 12%.
  • Nine months: revenue flat at 566.3 billion yuan and net profit down 4.2% to 22.34 billion yuan.
  • Inventory: 221.58 billion yuan at Sept. 30, up 60% from the end of 2025, per Electrek.

Tesla comparison

BYD's quarterly exports alone topped Tesla's worldwide Q3 deliveries of 486,532, Electrek noted. In Europe, Tesla still outsold BYD in September (our ACEA story), while BYD keeps pushing cheaper flash-charging models such as the new Seagull.
