CATL's partnership with Octopus Energy is moving into the home. CATL, Octopus Energy and Ampace have signed a memorandum of understanding to explore smart home energy storage in Europe, with CATL saying the UK, France and Spain will be prioritized.
According to CnEVPost, CATL will provide technology and supply chain support, Ampace will handle research, development and manufacturing of cells, battery management systems and storage systems, and Octopus will provide European customer channels, smart dynamic tariff algorithms and virtual power plant access. The parties will also look at rooftop solar, smart charging and vehicle-to-grid.
Octopus says the collaboration will draw on CATL and Ampace's research into next-generation chemistries, «including breakthrough developments in sodium-ion technology,» and builds on the two companies' earlier «Swaptopus» battery-swapping work for trucks in Europe.
