Another Hanoi bus route has gone fully electric. Since Nov. 1, route 40, which links Thong Nhat Park in central Hanoi with Van Lam in Hung Yen province, has been run by 15 VinFast EB8 electric buses. They replace the 15 diesel buses that served the route before.

The fleet

  • The 15 buses were built in 2026 and carry 60 passengers each. 13 are in regular service.
  • Nhân Dân reports that the switch was made under a decision by Hanoi's Department of Construction.
  • The buses have low floors and equipment for passengers with disabilities.

The EB8

electrive describes the EB8 as an 8.6-metre midibus with a 200 kW motor and a 359 kWh LFP battery. It has a stated range of over 290 km and supports DC fast charging at up to 120 kW.

The bigger push

In October, Transerco and its subsidiaries converted six routes and opened one new route, putting 94 electric buses into service. In April, it added 120 electric buses on seven routes. electrive reports that the operator wants more than 51% of its fleet to be "environmentally friendly" buses by the end of 2026.
