Elon Musk has named the next two buildings at SpaceX's Colossus 2 AI campus: Gun Range and Spam. He gave the details in replies on X on Saturday, Oct. 31, after walking the site.

Cluster by cluster

  • Macroharder and Minihard: 220,000 Nvidia GB300s each, with 800-gigabit networking, set up for training.
  • Gun Range: the same 220,000-GB300 training setup, tracking to be operational by the end of November. Musk said the site was "literally the local police department's gun range that we bought."
  • Spam: about 200,000 GB300s set up for inference, due in December. The building used to house Hormel products. Musk said it needs "much simpler networking and less than half the fiber."

Musk said Colossus 2 will have "a total of around 1.2M Blackwells" by the end of the year.

Why the split matters

Training clusters need dense, high-bandwidth links between chips. Inference clusters answer user queries and can run on simpler networks. Converge Digest notes that the November and December totals are targets, not equipment already running. Musk's posts do not say whether "GB300s" and "Blackwells" count individual GPUs or larger systems.

Business Insider notes that the Memphis campus was built to supply computing power for Grok.
