Another European fleet operator is making the economic case for electric trucks. Swiss wholesaler Pistor has put its 30th electric truck, an Iveco S-eWay, into service.

The fleet

  • 30 of the company's 109 trucks are now electric, operating from Rothenburg, Chavornay and Sennwald. electrive.net puts the electric share at 27.5%.
  • Eleven electric trucks were added this year alone.
  • electrive.net reports that Pistor also runs Mercedes-Benz Trucks electric models alongside the Iveco.

The target

CEO Patrick Lobsiger says Pistor wants at least half its fleet to be electric by 2030 and then to save 1,600 tonnes of CO₂ equivalent a year, with about CHF 15 million in further investment. He says cost is a big part of the reason (translated from German): "Electric trucks are now cheaper to operate and maintain than combustion trucks, which makes the overall calculation favourable for us."

Rail too

Orders for western and eastern Switzerland travel overnight by rail to the distribution centres in Chavornay and Sennwald, which Pistor says saves one million road kilometres a year. Trucks then deliver to customers in the early morning. Pistor has about 720 employees, and electrive.net reports 2025 revenue of CHF 858 million.
