Tesla owners say software update 2026.38.5.1 has stopped third-party vehicle-to-load (V2L) adapters from working, Not a Tesla App and Drive Tesla Canada reported on Oct. 29, 2026. These devices plug into the car's CCS charging port and let owners run household items from the battery.

What owners report

The problem was first raised on the Tesla Motors Club forum on Oct. 19 by FalconFour, a 2022 Model 3 owner who said he had used an adapter almost every day for more than 18 months. At a 3 kW load, his adapter now cuts out after about three minutes with the fault code BMS_a076_SW_Dch_While_Charging. Other owners say theirs stop after 15 to 20 minutes, whatever the load.

  • Turning on Camp Mode or Service Mode does not help.
  • A test firmware from adapter maker Elejoy did not fix it.

The adapters work by making the car think a DC fast-charging session has started. Forum members suspect Tesla now checks that energy is really flowing into the car. It is not clear whether Tesla blocked the devices on purpose.

Tesla's own option

Tesla's own Powershare feature is now on every new Model 3 and Model Y in the US. Canada briefly listed V2L for the Model Y, then removed it within 24 hours. See our Powershare story.

There is a precedent: a 2024 update cut off a 12V power trick some owners used. Tesla brought it back in 2025 as the Keep Accessory Power On setting, with a 20% battery limit.
