Amara Raja is betting on LFP. The board of Amara Raja Advanced Cell Technologies (ARACT), the wholly owned cell subsidiary of Amara Raja Energy & Mobility, approved ₹2,320 crore of capital expenditure on Nov. 2, according to the company's stock exchange filing.
What the money buys
- More packs: battery pack manufacturing capacity rises from 4 GWh to 9 GWh.
- An LFP cell plant: a new lithium iron phosphate cell factory at the Amara Raja Giga Corridor in Telangana. Telangana Tribune places it at Divitipalli, Mahbubnagar.
- Timeline and funding: both plants are to be set up within 30 months, financed through a mix of equity and debt.
Where it fits
Telangana Tribune reports the approval is part of a wider ₹9,500 crore Giga Corridor programme targeting up to 16 GWh of lithium-ion cell capacity by around FY30. The company commissioned a ₹500 crore, 60 MWh customer qualification plant in July 2026, and commercial production at the initial 2 GWh Giga 1 facility, focused on NMC cells for mobility, is expected in mid-2027.
The new plant marks a shift toward LFP, the chemistry that dominates energy storage and many affordable EVs, including Tesla's standard-range cars. The outlet notes Amara Raja still faces technology and cost challenges against imported cells.
