Anthropic, the maker of Claude, told prospective investors on Wednesday, Oct. 14, 2026 that its third-quarter revenue was $16.8 billion, according to people familiar with the presentation cited by Bloomberg, CNBC and The New York Times. The meeting was held at the company's San Francisco headquarters as Anthropic prepares an initial public offering that CNBC reports is slated for November.

The numbers investors heard

  • Revenue: $16.8 billion in Q3, up from $11.6 billion in Q2 and $4.7 billion in Q1 (CNBC). The New York Times puts the quarter-on-quarter jump at about 45%.
  • Profit: profitable in the quarter on an adjusted basis. The Times notes that this is an adjusted figure, not a bottom-line number.
  • Margins: 85% gross margin and an adjusted operating margin above 11%, plus positive free cash flow, Bloomberg reports.
  • Compute: $1.70 in revenue for every dollar spent on computing power in Q3, according to the Financial Times, as cited by CNBC.

Anthropic has not published audited results; all of the figures come from people describing the investor presentation. The Financial Times says the pitch comes amid concern about the AI trade.

Why it matters

The figures give the first detailed look at the finances of one of the largest AI labs heading toward a public listing. Anthropic is also showing up in the car: Rivian CEO RJ Scaringe named it this week as an example of the third-party AI agents Rivian plans to host, and the lab is among those facing new rules in Europe (see our report on the EU AI Act's first enforcement).
