GM is taking on BYD's plug-in sedans in China. Buick's Electra GS, a fastback plug-in hybrid sedan built by SAIC-GM, appears in the 413th batch of MIIT filings, with public comment open from November 4 to 10.
All three filed variants use a 165 kW (221 hp) electric motor and a 1.5-liter engine rated at 72 kW or 115 kW, with lithium iron phosphate batteries from Rept Battero or Zenergy. CarNewsChina reports the sedan measures 4,979 mm long with a 2,865 mm wheelbase, 149 mm longer than BYD's Qin L DM-i, and can be fitted with a roof-mounted LiDAR sensor.
Battery capacity, range and launch timing have yet to be disclosed. CarNewsChina notes Buick's deliveries in China fell 20.4% year on year, according to China EV DataTracker.
