BYD on Tuesday, Oct. 13, 2026 launched the Great Han (sold in China as the Da Han), its new flagship electric sedan, in three versions priced from 235,900 yuan ($35,050) to 275,900 yuan. CnEVPost reports the final prices came in 14,000 to 24,000 yuan below the pre-sale prices BYD set at the Chengdu Auto Show on Aug. 21. The launch covers battery-electric versions only.

Why BYD needs it

The existing Han is struggling. According to CnEVPost's tally of company data, the Han lineup sold 2,529 cars in September, down 70.90% from a year earlier, and 44,324 from January through September, down 68.86%. BYD's other new flagship, the Great Tang SUV, launched June 17 and reached 40,222 sales by the end of September.

What it means for Tesla

Electrek notes the Great Han is slightly bigger than the Tesla Model S and the Lucid Air, yet starts at about the price of a mid-size car in China. Tesla no longer builds a car in that class: it ended Model S and Model X production in May (our Q3 deliveries story). The bigger pressure is on Tesla's China volume, where local buyers took 64,837 Shanghai-built cars in September, down 9% from a year earlier (our China sales story). BYD also makes roof LiDAR standard at this price, while Tesla's FSD (Supervised) runs on cameras only.
