Ottawa is spending more on Starlink, not less. Government of Canada contract disclosures show Shared Services Canada's agreement with SpaceX Canada Corp. is now valued at C$28,941,731.17, nearly 13 times its original value.

The contract was awarded on November 29, 2023 for C$2.26 million, covering communications and network services through October 24, 2025, via an advance contract award notice. Amendments since then include a C$17.2 million increase in the fourth quarter of fiscal 2025-26, which took it to C$29.39 million and moved the end date to March 31, 2027, before a reduction of about C$444,000.

Drive Tesla Canada says the service mainly supports fixed or semi-permanent federal installations, including in northern and coastal regions. TeslaNorth notes the records do not say which plans or hardware the money covers, and that the growth comes despite Prime Minister Mark Carney's push to reduce Canada's reliance on the service.
