OpenAI's ad business is going global fast. On Wednesday, Oct. 21, 2026, the company expanded ChatGPT ads to 26 more countries, bringing the total to 89, and said "over 100,000 advertisers have run campaigns on ChatGPT" since ads launched just over eight months ago. The Verge noted ads first arrived in the U.S. in February.

Where they're coming

OpenAI said the rollout adds 14 more Latin American countries, including Argentina, Chile, Colombia and Peru, after earlier launches in Mexico and Brazil, plus markets including Nigeria, South Africa, Serbia, Ukraine, Cambodia, Bangladesh and Pakistan. Advertisers can buy through technology partners or self-serve through its Ads Manager.

Who sees them

Ads appear only on the Free and Go plans; Plus, Pro and Enterprise stay ad-free, OpenAI said. It says conversations are kept private from advertisers, it does not sell customer data, and ads are labeled and "do not influence the answers ChatGPT provides." OpenAI said more than 1.2 billion people use ChatGPT each week, and that its next phase will add more ad formats, buying options and measurement tools.
