Tesla's other Optimus, the one with no arms or legs, just got its first public progress report. In a reply on X early Saturday, Oct. 10, Elon Musk wrote that Digital Optimus "can play about halfway through the Diablo campaign so far just by looking at the screen like a human." He added that its skill at Counter-Strike "and other fast games is good too," that League is in training, and that the "goal is to generalize across all games."

What Digital Optimus is

Despite the name, this is software, not the humanoid robot. TeslaNorth reports Musk unveiled it in March as part of the Macrohard project with SpaceXAI: an agent that watches the last five seconds of live screen video and answers with keyboard and mouse actions. Musk described a split brain, with Digital Optimus handling fast reactions and Grok acting as the "master conductor/navigator," and said it would run mostly on Tesla's AI4 computer, the chip already in its cars, which he put at about $650.

Tesla's own framing is broader than games. We Talk Tesla notes the Q1 2026 shareholder update called Digital Optimus "the next evolution" of Tesla's AI work, and a current Tesla Careers listing in Palo Alto describes a computer-use agent that reads screen video, understands interfaces and completes complex digital workflows on its own.

Why games, and what's missing

A long campaign like Diablo forces an agent to juggle menus, quests and combat for hours, while Counter-Strike rewards split-second reactions. Doing both from pixels, with no hooks into the game's code, is a fair stress test for an agent meant to run ordinary software.

But the claim is thin on detail. Musk did not say which Diablo game, what difficulty, how many attempts it took, or how much of the planning came from Grok, and he shared no footage. The Circuit Daily found no independent confirmation, and neither Tesla nor SpaceXAI had posted about it, per TeslaNorth. Pim de Witte of game-AI lab General Intuition publicly challenged Musk to a five-game head-to-head under the same pixels-in, actions-out rules; We Talk Tesla, citing Think Facility, said no reply had surfaced by Saturday evening.

What it means for investors: Treat this as a progress claim from the program's leader, not a benchmark. Digital Optimus matters to the Tesla story because it would turn the AI4 computer and Tesla's vision models into a product beyond cars and robots. If it comes up on the Oct. 21 earnings call, listen for a demo, a reproducible test, or any word on customers or pricing. Until then, there is nothing to model.
