The head of Ferrari just gave Tesla's new Roadster a perfect score. Ferrari CEO Benedetto Vigna said on Tuesday, Oct. 20, 2026 that he gives the Roadster launch 10 out of 10 for technology and 10 out of 10 for presentation, calling it "sensational." He spoke by video link from India, where Ferrari was hosting a client event, in an interview with editor Alessandro Lago at Quattroruote Next, a conference run by the Italian car magazine, Reuters and Quattroruote reported.
What Vigna said
"It certainly shows that also in the automotive world there's still a lot to be done. We have to keep dreaming," Vigna said, according to Reuters. "As a European, thank you for showing us how that, even in an old world, you can still innovate and dare."
In Quattroruote's Italian transcript, Vigna, a physicist by training, opens with "Do 10 in tecnologia e 10 in comunicazione" ("I give it 10 for technology and 10 for communication") and says the presentation was "sensazionale."
Ferrari's own EV bet
The praise comes as Ferrari tries to win over skeptics of its first fully electric car, the Luce, which it developed with former Apple design chief Jony Ive and his LoveFrom studio. Ferrari shares fell as much as 7.8% in Milan in May after the Luce was unveiled, Quartz reported; the car is priced at €550,000 with deliveries expected before the end of 2026. Vigna argued that outside input was vital: "If we had worked on our own, we wouldn't have done what we did," he said, per Reuters.
The Roadster so far
Tesla showed the new Roadster on Oct. 15 with SpaceX-derived thrusters and airborne stunts, and Musk said production would start in 2028; Tesla has not disclosed a price. Reuters noted that market reaction was mixed, with analysts saying deliveries are still some way off after years of delays.
