China's cheapest hit EV just passed a big milestone. Geely's 1 millionth Xingyuan rolled off the production line on Tuesday, Oct. 20, 2026, the company's Geely Galaxy sub-brand announced on Weibo, about two years after the small electric hatchback launched in China on Oct. 9, 2024. Geely says it currently sells at an average of one unit per minute. Overseas it is sold as the Geely EX2 (or E2 in some markets).
The numbers
- Production milestones: 200,000 in May 2025, 600,000 in March 2026, 800,000 in August 2026 and 1,000,000 on Oct. 20, 2026. The figure is cumulative production including exports, not China retail sales; Geely hasn't said how many went abroad.
- 2025: 465,775 retail sales in China, the most of any model that year, per China Passenger Car Association data cited by CnEVPost.
- 2026 so far: 310,391 China retail sales in January to September, down 9.60% year on year, as the broader Chinese car market weakened. September was its best month of 2026 at 44,275.
- Price: an updated version launched May 28 with a limited-time starting price of 61,800 yuan (about $9,200), with CLTC ranges of 310 km, 410 km and 480 km.
What's under it
The Xingyuan uses Geely's GEA architecture with a rear-mounted motor (58 kW or 85 kW), rear-wheel drive and an independent multi-link rear suspension, and LFP batteries of 30.12 kWh or 40.16 kWh in the original versions, according to CarNewsChina. Its main rivals are BYD's Seagull and Dolphin; BYD just launched a second-generation Seagull with flash charging (see our BYD Seagull story). The EX2 is sold in Latin America, Southeast Asia, Australia and the UK, with local assembly in Indonesia since January 2026.
What it means for Tesla
The Xingyuan sells for a fraction of a Model 3 and isn't a direct rival, but it shows where China's volume is: in 2025 it outsold every other car in the country, including Tesla's Model Y. Geely is also expanding abroad, including a planned entry into Canada with first models in 2027, CnEVPost reported earlier this month.
