Hyundai has used the name Ioniq P for an upcoming Indian model. On Oct. 29, during its third-quarter earnings call, a Hyundai official told analysts: «In China, we have Ioniq V that's coming, and in India, we have Bayon and Ioniq P», electrive reports.

A day earlier, Hyundai Motor India said it would launch a «dedicated mass market EV» in the January–March 2027 quarter. electrive links the Ioniq P name to that car, which Indian media have been calling HE1i. Autocar India says Hyundai Motor India has not officially announced the name yet, and that management did not explicitly tie the Ioniq P name to the HE1i project.

What is expected

  • Timing: Autocar India expects a debut in January 2027.
  • Platform: Autocar India expects it to use the same E-GMP (K) platform as the Inster. It will likely come in standard-range and long-range versions, but specifications have not been announced.
  • Design: Based on test cars, electrive says it follows a concept similar to the Inster, with a boxier, more upright SUV look. It may also be larger. The test cars show flush door handles and Parametric Pixel lights.
  • Rivals: Autocar India names compact EVs such as the Tata Nexon EV and Kia Syros EV.

Why it matters

Autocar India reports that Hyundai Motor India managing director Tarun Garg wants a made-for-India mass-market EV to bring the brand's EV sales share closer to the industry average in FY28. Electric passenger car sales in India are up almost 90% so far in FY27, according to Autocar India.
