The Electroway truck stop at Magna Park, Lutterworth, is open, and the companies behind it call it the UK's largest public electric truck charging hub. electrive says the site opened on Oct. 14. Keoma Energy operates it, Guardian Smart Infrastructure Management funded it, and Finnish maker Kempower supplied the chargers.
The site
- 32 DC fast-charging connectors at first, each up to 400 kW, sharing 2.4 MW of installed capacity that is distributed dynamically across the site.
- 180 secure truck parking bays, on about 22,500 square metres according to electrive.
- Showers, laundry, rest areas and a truck wash. electrive reports a TAPA Level 2 security setup with 78 cameras.
- Kempower says a truck can add about 300 kWh in a 45-minute break in suitable conditions, or up to about 240 km of range depending on the vehicle, according to electrive.
What comes next
Kempower says a second phase early next year is expected to add megawatt-level charging at up to 1.2 MW. The site could eventually grow to about 200 connectors. Keoma Energy plans about 20 more similar sites in the UK over the coming years.
Magna Park is near the M1, M6 and M69 motorways and has around 50 depots run by companies including Amazon, Asda and Marks & Spencer. Kempower says 40% of the park's tenants already have net-zero pledges.
