Elon Musk says Tesla's future is robots and robotaxis, not cars. "Optimus and Cybercab will be the vast majority of Tesla's value," he wrote on X at 10:01 p.m. PT on Saturday, Oct. 17, 2026, replying to the account Teslaconomics, Tesla North reported.

Optimus and Cybercab will be the vast majority of Tesla's value.
The only things that will scale to incredible size (K2 and beyond) economically are super intelligence, robots, solar power and mass to space.
And, of course, if you have the first two, the rest will follow.
But Roadster is super cool, so we're doing it anyway.

Musk did not explain "K2" or give figures to back the claim, Tesla North noted. Teslaconomics' original post had floated a Tesla-SpaceX merger; Musk didn't address that.

Why the timing matters

The post lands days before Tesla's third-quarter report after the close on Oct. 21, where Robotaxi and Optimus updates are expected to compete with the headline numbers, Benzinga reported. Benzinga said analysts expect EPS of $0.43 on revenue of $27.90 billion. See our Q3 earnings preview.

On Tesla's investor question list, the most popular question asked how Tesla plans to expand its Cybercab fleet beyond Austin, and others asked how much each Optimus costs to build, Tesla North found.

The Roadster-Optimus link

Tesla VP Lars Moravy said in a recent interview that the Roadster's rear wing uses leg actuators developed for Optimus, adding that "nobody in the world is better at making the actuators than us," Tesla North reported. He also said Tesla has four or five Roadster prototypes. Related: Roadster design and the Optimus actuator wing.
