Elon Musk has replied "No" to a report that Tesla will open Optimus orders in December. The San Francisco Standard reported on Friday, Oct. 30, that Tesla was expected to open customer reservations for the humanoid robot in early December.

What the report said

The Standard's source was Modar Alaoui, a robotics investor at ALM Ventures. Alaoui runs the Humanoids Summit, which takes place Dec. 1-2 in San Mateo. He told the paper that Tesla said reservations would be timed to launch with his event or in the days after. He also said Tesla is a key partner of this year's conference and plans to demo Optimus V3. According to Alaoui, most robots would go to companies, with a small number set aside for consumers.

Musk's reply

Robert Scoble asked on X, "Optimus ordering coming in December?" Musk replied "No" at 3:08 p.m. PT, TeslaNorth reported. TeslaNorth noted that Scoble's post also included a joke, so the one-word reply is not a full statement on timing. The Standard updated its story to note Musk's reply. It said Tesla did not respond to requests for comment.

What Tesla has said

On Tesla's October earnings call, Musk said Optimus still has issues with AI, electromechanical design and run time. He said he expects them to be solved "around the end of next year," which is when Tesla expects to deliver Optimus to companies outside Tesla. Tesla has not published a price, an order page or a consumer sales date.
