Rivian has published a support article that sets expectations on its next autonomy hardware. R1T, R1S and R2 vehicles currently available to order do not include LiDAR or the Rivian Autonomy Processor (RAP1). That includes the R2 Performance with Launch Package.

What the page says

  • Rivian has not announced customer availability dates for LiDAR or RAP1.
  • Buying Autonomy+, choosing a package, or picking a later delivery date does not guarantee either piece of hardware.
  • Autonomy+ is a software package. It does not add LiDAR or replace the onboard processor.
  • Test vehicles with LiDAR on the road are collecting data. They do not signal when customer cars will get it.
  • There are currently no plans to retrofit LiDAR to existing Rivian vehicles. Rivian notes an over-the-air update cannot add sensors or swap a processor.
  • Having LiDAR or RAP1 alone would not mean an eyes-off feature is available. That also needs software and approval for specific conditions.

Why it matters

Drive Tesla Canada says the page arrives as buyers weigh whether to wait for the new hardware. Rivian's own guidance is clear: until it announces eligible configurations, it cannot confirm that a car delivered in any given month will have it. Current driver assistance features still require full driver supervision.
