Tesla wants to more than double its car output by the end of the decade. "We are, I think, aiming for 5 million vehicles a year by approximately 2030. I think we have got a good shot of achieving that goal," Elon Musk said on Tesla's Q3 2026 earnings call on Wednesday, Oct. 21, 2026, according to the transcript published by Investing.com. Tesla delivered 486,532 vehicles in Q3, its second straight quarter above 480,000.
How Tesla says it gets there
- Berlin: Manufacturing VP Lars Moravy said Tesla has "applied for the proper permits to expand the factories in Berlin," is ramping Cybercab at Giga Texas and just started its Semi factory in Reno.
- Existing plants: Moravy said factories ran "at record rates this quarter" as earlier investments to raise output start to pay off.
- Demand: Musk said demand "is exceeding our production by a significant margin." CFO Vaibhav Taneja said Tesla exited the quarter with its highest backlog in four years, with deliveries "constrained primarily by production."
- Model Y: Based on preliminary data, Taneja said Model Y was the No. 1 selling battery EV in Europe and the No. 1 selling passenger car in South Korea in the quarter, with records in Australia, Japan and Taiwan.
- Energy: Musk said Tesla is "almost sold out of all Megapacks for 2027," investingLive reported.
