Tesla's Semi factory is running, at half its planned size for now. In its Q3 2026 update released on Wednesday, Oct. 21, 2026, Tesla said it "began volume production of Tesla Semi, our Class 8 heavy-duty truck," and listed installed Semi capacity in Nevada of 25,000 trucks a year, with status "Production." When Tesla opened the Sparks, Nevada factory on Sept. 24, Semi engineering director Dan Priestley said the company plans to produce 50,000 Semi trucks a year there, about 1,000 a week, CNBC reported.
What Tesla says the Semi can do
- The top variant can go 500 miles at a full 82,000 lbs gross combination weight with efficiency of 1.7 kWh per mile, Tesla said.
- Tesla says that lets the Semi "use a third of the energy used by a comparable diesel truck to haul the same payload."
- Tesla deployed its first pre-assembled Megacharger in the quarter to support the Semi ramp.
Orders so far
CNBC reported in September that industry coalition ZET SCALE selected Tesla as its primary manufacturer for an initial order of 2,500 Semis, and that trucking firm Einride agreed to order 500. Tesla does not list a Semi price; CNBC cited the International Council on Clean Transportation saying higher-end long-range trucks have been priced at around $290,000. Tesla did not disclose how many Semis it built or delivered in Q3; its "other models" category, which includes Semi, Cybertruck and Model S/X, totaled 7,004 produced and 8,295 delivered.
