Tesla is making its cars cheaper to start paying for in China. Its new «Tesla Ease» (特从容) plan offers five-year, 0% interest financing and cuts the minimum down payment on the Model 3 and Model Y from 79,900 yuan to 39,900 yuan, Gasgoo reports. For the six-seat Model Y L, the down payment drops from 99,900 yuan to 59,900 yuan.
The plan uses a balloon structure with a 39,900-yuan final payment. Gasgoo's example for a Model 3 RWD priced at 235,500 yuan works out to about 2,429 yuan a month. Buyers who choose the balloon option also get 10,000 yuan off a Model 3 or 4,000 yuan off a Model Y. The offer runs from October 30 to November 30.
National Business Daily counts this as at least the seventh change to Tesla's China purchase incentives this year. It notes that Tesla's China retail sales in the first nine months were 381,100, down 11.9% year on year according to the China Passenger Car Association, and that sales have fallen year on year for four months in a row.
