Tesla owners may get unsupervised FSD on their own cars in about six months. On Tesla's Q3 2026 earnings call on Wednesday, Oct. 21, 2026, Ashok Elluswamy, Tesla's vice president of Autopilot, said the company plans to give some customer cars access to FSD (Unsupervised) around the second quarter of 2027, CNBC reported. Tesla gave no list of eligible cars or markets.
FSD numbers from the Q3 update
- Active FSD subscriptions: 1.74 million, up from 1.48 million in Q2 2026 and 1.04 million in Q3 2025. Tesla counts upfront purchases and monthly subscriptions and excludes free trials.
- Four more FSD (Supervised) approvals since the end of Q2: Croatia, Slovenia, the Czech Republic and Slovakia. FSD is now available in nine EU countries and used by more than 100,000 customers there, who have logged more than 160 million kilometers.
- CNBC reported that FSD uptake grew by 20 percentage points from the second quarter. "We believe that FSD is driving demand in markets where it is available," Tesla said.
Robotaxi: when it shows up in results
Tesla said it reached nearly two million cumulative unsupervised Robotaxi miles by the end of September, started Cybercab rides in Austin on Sept. 3, and now runs Austin service from 6 a.m. to midnight. Asked when Robotaxi would matter financially, Musk said: "It's not like going to move the needle this quarter. I think it starts to become noticeable in Q2 and then probably a big deal by Q3 or Q4 of next year," according to CNBC. He also said "the vast majority of the Cybercab stuff will be essentially Tesla-owned and transport-as-a-service."
