Florida's governor wants Tesla Robotaxis to reach the beach, and Elon Musk says that's "coming soon." Gov. Ron DeSantis posted on X at 7:43 p.m. PT on Monday, Oct. 26, 2026: "They need to have the Tampa and Miami ones include the beaches!" Musk replied "Coming soon" at 7:35 a.m. PT on Tuesday, Oct. 27, TeslaNorth reported.
How big the zones are now
DeSantis was quoting a post by investor Sawyer Merritt listing Tesla's Robotaxi service areas:
Austin: 272 sq mi
Houston: 254 sq mi (a 916% increase)
Dallas: 81 sq mi
Miami: 31 sq mi
Orlando: 26 sq mi
Tampa: 24 sq mi
The Florida zones are the smallest of the six driverless markets. Miami opened in early July, and Orlando and Tampa followed later in July. Houston's zone grew on Oct. 26 into the rocket-shaped map we covered.
What we don't know
Musk gave no date, didn't say which beaches, and Tesla hasn't published an updated Tampa or Miami map. DeSantis has backed Tesla in Florida before; this month he said the company's flying Roadster would be legal in the state.
