Tesla registered 124 new cars in Switzerland and Liechtenstein in October, 3.1% fewer than a year earlier, while BYD registered 835. That comes from auto-schweiz's brand table, as reported by Teslant. BYD's figure includes its plug-in hybrids.
The year-to-date race
- Tesla: 5,441 registrations from January to October, up 17.4%.
- BYD: 5,403, up from 141 cars in October 2025 to 835 this October.
- The gap was 749 cars at the end of September and is now 38.
The market
auto-schweiz, the association of official importers, says 18,986 new cars were registered in October, up 2.9%. Of those, 6,620 were battery electric, against 4,175 a year earlier. For the year so far, 52,084 EVs have been registered, up 30.5%. The total market of 192,523 cars is only 2.7% above a very weak 2025, while the EU market grew 5.7% in the first nine months.
auto-schweiz chief economist Mario Bonato said the weak market is slowing the renewal of the fleet, whose average age has reached a record 11 years. Tesla's European deliveries usually peak in the last month of each quarter, so December will decide the year's order.
