Public iCloud links are about to get a content check. Starting with iOS 27.3, iPadOS 27.3, macOS 27.3 and visionOS 27.3, photos and files shared through iCloud with the «Anyone with the link» option will be «made accessible to Apple» to check for harmful content, MacRumors reports, citing an Apple support document.
Apple does not define harmful content. It says it may remove such content, disable accounts or, «if necessary,» involve law enforcement, The Verge reports. Items shared this way will no longer be end-to-end encrypted, even with Advanced Data Protection turned on. Sharing with «People you choose» and «Send a Copy» are not affected, and Apple has not said whether links created earlier will be checked.
The 27.3 updates are in developer beta now, and Apple plans a public release in December.
