Audi is recalling 9,048 Q4 e-tron and Q4 Sportback e-tron electric SUVs from the 2024 and 2025 model years because the high-voltage battery may fail and cause a fire. NHTSA campaign 26V698 (Audi code 93SK) tells owners to charge to no more than 80% until a fix is ready. The remedy is still being developed.
Key facts
- Vehicles: 2024-2025 Audi Q4 e-tron and Q4 Sportback e-tron, 9,048 potential units, filed by Volkswagen Group of America.
- Why: Electrek reports that Audi's Product Safety Committee was told of battery thermal events in other VW Group EVs using the same batteries. An internal investigation found the same battery and production characteristics in the Q4.
- Incidents: Audi says it isn't aware of any claims, crashes, fires, injuries or deaths linked to the Q4 issue, per Electrek.
- What dealers do: run a battery diagnostic and, if needed, set a temporary 80% charge limit.
- Letters: interim owner letters are due to be mailed on Dec. 18, 2026, with more once a remedy exists. VINs became searchable on NHTSA.gov on Oct. 23.
Same problem as the ID.4
InsideEVs notes the Q4 e-tron is a mechanical sibling of the Volkswagen ID.4, which was recalled earlier this month with the same 80% advice. For the wider VW Group recall, see VW's 72,668-car battery recall.
What owners should do
Check your VIN with Audi's recall lookup or NHTSA's VIN tool, and keep the charge limit at 80% until your car is repaired.
