Australia's EV surge is holding. Battery electric vehicles outsold petrol-only vehicles for the third month in a row in October, taking 23.1% of the new vehicle market, The Driven reports, citing combined data from the FCAI and the Electric Vehicle Council.

There were 24,845 BEVs sold against 23,605 petrol vehicles, though diesel stayed ahead on 25,649. That is more than three times the 7,361 EVs sold in October 2025, when they had a 7.3% share. Petrol-only sales fell 35.9% year over year and diesel fell 14.7%.

GoAuto reports that VFACTS recorded 103,325 vehicles in October; adding 4,168 Tesla and Polestar deliveries reported separately by the EV Council brings the market to 107,493, up 6.8%. The EV share was slightly below September's 24.2%.
