Xiaomi is laying groundwork for its EVs in Australia. The company has posted two Sydney jobs, a senior legal counsel for its Australian automotive business and a product manager for instalment finance across Asia-Pacific, CarNewsChina reports. The legal role covers vehicle sales, after-sales, contracts and regulatory work.

The hiring fits a timetable Xiaomi president Lu Weibing set out at the company's April investor day: Europe in the second half of 2027, then right-hand-drive markets in the first half of 2028. At IFA Berlin in September, Xiaomi signed memorandums of understanding with eight German dealer groups, including Emil Frey and Hahn Automobile.

Notebookcheck lists the UK, Japan and New Zealand among possible right-hand-drive markets, and says Xiaomi has no plans for the U.S. because of 100% tariffs and certification barriers. EV Compared stresses that Xiaomi has not officially named the UK, and no prices or model lists have been announced for any right-hand-drive market.
