Ford's cheap electric pickup will stay cheap at the top. «We'll have a range that goes to the high $30,000 range. And we'll have a couple different offerings within that,» Andrew Frick, president of Ford Blue and Model e, said in remarks quoted by the Detroit Free Press and cited by Yahoo Autos. The Fathom starts at $28,350 plus a $1,595 destination fee, or $29,945. Ford has not broken down the trims.

Frick said new EV prices in the U.S. have risen about 10% in the last couple of years. He noted that nearly half of new vehicles in the U.S. sell for under $40,000, Jalopnik reports, and said Ford expects the Fathom to draw gas and hybrid buyers as well as EV shoppers. Ford is still on track to open preorders in the first quarter of 2027.

Timing is the risk. CEO Jim Farley has told analysts the Fathom will reach the market near the end of 2027 and that this «will require a high-level execution by our team.» On the October 28 call, COO Kumar Galhotra said 90% of validation testing was complete, Yahoo Autos reports.
