ChatGPT now makes GIFs. OpenAI's new Images 2.6 model lets ChatGPT build an animated GIF from a text prompt or an uploaded photo. Users can then change the animation speed, edit individual frames and share the result, The Verge reports. Before this, ChatGPT could not natively generate a GIF in one step.
The update also speeds up image generation in general. It is rolling out to all ChatGPT and Codex users on web, desktop and mobile. For developers, OpenAI is releasing API models called GPT-Image-2.6 «Flare», built for efficiency, and «Sunburst», built for higher quality, The Decoder reports.
The Decoder notes that the model keeps a character consistent across frames, which makes the flipbook-style GIFs work. OpenAI says people now generate more than 4 billion images a week through ChatGPT and its API, up from the 3 billion a week it reported in September.
