Grok Bot got more expensive to run than SpaceX wanted. Over Halloween weekend, some users found their weekly usage limits maxed out even without overnight use, with some reporting meters jumping from as low as 50% to 100%, TechCrunch reports.
Musk confirmed on X on Sunday that it was not a glitch: «The cost of serving Grok Bot was unsustainably high relative to revenue,» he wrote in reply to a user. The Verge notes he gave no details on what had changed.
TechCrunch says Musk has not shared how subscribers' limits will be affected going forward. The agent has been pitched as a success story for the newly public SpaceX, which said in a filing last month that AI makes up 52% of company income, and Musk recently called it «the fastest growth of a product that I've ever seen in my life.»
