Grok Bot can now handle your X direct messages. Matt Palmer, who works on Cursor and Grok Bot at SpaceXSI, posted a "What's new in Grok Bot" video on X on Tuesday morning, Oct. 20, 2026, walking through changes including X Chat DMs, tagging @bot in X threads and an Android default-assistant option. He closed the post with "This team ships!"

X DMs and @bot tagging

"Bot can now read your X chat DMs and respond," Palmer says in the video, according to TeslaNorth, adding that the feature had been "asked for like a million times" and that limits are in place so "you can't spam people." He did not say whether a reply needs the user's approval before it goes out, TeslaNorth notes.

Users can also tag @bot in any X thread and it will "do whatever you ask it to," because the Bot knows which X username is linked to the account; the X plugin has to be installed and configured first. Examples included saving posts or explaining something just seen on the timeline.

Android, voice calls and more

On Android, Grok Bot can now be chosen as the phone's default digital assistant, a day after it gained one-press access through the iPhone's Action Button. Voice calls now keep the previous call and its full transcript if you call back, though that memory lasts only 30 minutes. Palmer's list also covers new chat cards, speed, highlighted draft edits, email aliases, new connectors, collapsed notifications, team invites and access lists.

For Tesla owners, Bots can already be reached through Grok in Tesla vehicles, TeslaNorth points out. Earlier: Grok Bot comes to the iPhone Action Button and Grok Voice 3.0 in Tesla cars.
