Drivers in Slovenia can now legally take their hands off the wheel while an approved driver-assistance system is active. The National Assembly passed the amendment to the Road Traffic Rules Act by 49 votes to 3 under the urgent procedure on Oct. 20, 24ur reported. Teslant says the change is now in force.
The conditions
- The system must be type-approved or individually approved.
- Road, visibility, traffic, weather and the state of the vehicle must allow it.
- The driver remains responsible and must let police check whether the system was on.
The same law also changes how alcohol indicators are used in roadside checks, following a constitutional court ruling, 24ur reports.
What it means for Tesla
Slovenia recognised the Dutch approval of Tesla's supervised system in September. Teslant says that approval covered the car, while this amendment covers the driver. A state secretary told Tesla Mag the approach is "technology-neutral" and applies to all approved systems, not just Tesla's.
Sources differ on how far police checks go. Teslant says one summary of the law lets officers take data from the car, while the ministry told Tesla Mag that officers can only look at the vehicle's display.
