Tesla's 2026.38 software update added Grok support files to Intel-powered Model 3 and Model Y cars. A Model 3 owner with root access turned on Grok and the full-screen parked-car visualization on the car's Intel Atom computer by flipping feature flags. Tesla has not officially enabled either feature on Intel cars.
What was shown
- The video came from @angellvroo and was shared by @Luckeronisekcz, who said both features ran with "surprisingly solid framerates."
- The owner did not install anything new. Until 2026.38, which began rolling out in late September, Intel Model 3 and Model Y builds did not include the Grok code at all.
- Tesla hacker @greentheonly confirmed the files were added to the Intel Model 3 build and said enabling it "looks feasible."
Not every Intel car
Greentheonly said legacy Model S and Model X cars on Intel hardware still do not have the Grok support files. So even if Tesla flips the switch, those older S and X cars would not get Grok from this build.
What it means
Since launch, Grok in Tesla cars has been limited to newer cars with AMD Ryzen infotainment computers. Because Grok runs in the cloud, owners have argued that older cars should be able to use it too. Having the files in the build is groundwork, not a promise. Tesla has given no date and has not said it will enable the feature. For where Grok stands on Ryzen cars, see our 2026.38.6 update story.
