Tesla sold 4,050 cars in Australia in October. The Electric Vehicle Council (EVC) figures, reported by The Driven and WhichCar, show a 28% drop from 5,654 in September and the weakest month since April (1,225). Compared with October 2025, when Tesla sold just 916 cars, the total is up 342%.
The model split
- Model Y: 3,105, down from 4,476 in September and 6,414 in August, but up 322% from 735 a year earlier. Model Y has reached 39,035 this year, against 17,972 at the same point in 2025.
- Model 3: 945, down from 1,178 in September and up from 181 in October 2025. Its year-to-date total is 6,720, up 20%.
- Tesla year to date: 45,755, up 94% from 23,569.
A choppy year
Tesla's monthly totals in 2026 have swung widely: 501 in January, 3,274 in February, 3,485 in March, 1,225 in April, 6,433 in May, 8,670 in June, 4,778 in July and 7,685 in August, before September's 5,654. The Driven notes that deliveries depend heavily on the timing of shipments from Shanghai, and that the first month of a quarter is often quiet, so a single month is a rough guide.
Polestar and the wider picture
WhichCar notes the EVC's monthly report covers only Tesla and Polestar; other brands' sales are reported separately through the Federal Chamber of Automotive Industries' VFACTS data. Polestar sold 118 cars in October (Polestar 4: 79, Polestar 2: 30, Polestar 3: 8, Polestar 5: 1) and is down 11% for the year at 1,799. Together the two brands sold 4,168 cars in October, against 5,854 in September, and 47,554 so far this year, up 86%.
Combined Tesla and Polestar sales are up year to date in every state and territory, from 42% in Western Australia to 136% in the Northern Territory, WhichCar reports. The Driven adds that Tesla is counting on its new cut-price Model 3 RWD, announced at the end of September from just under $46,000 before on-road costs.
