The Cybertruck isn't coming Down Under. Tesla emailed reservation holders in Australia and New Zealand on Friday, Oct. 23, 2026, the day after its Q3 results: "After careful consideration, plans to produce Cybertruck for Australia and New Zealand have been discontinued. As a result, we're unable to fulfil your reservation and it will be cancelled."
What reservation holders get
- A full refund of any payments made, usually the A$150 deposit taken from November 2019, processed "within 30 days of confirmation" of refund details, a Tesla spokesperson told Information Age.
- A complimentary one-year FSD (Supervised) subscription when they order a new Model 3 or Model Y, applied after delivery. CarExpert valued it at A$1,788 at the current A$149-a-month price.
Why it ended
Tesla didn't give a reason beyond "careful consideration." The Cybertruck is built only in left-hand drive, and Australia also requires certification under its own design rules, Electrek noted. Tesla closed the Australian reservation page in May 2022 and replaced it with a "Get updates" button, without refunding deposits at the time.
"We remain focused on the road ahead for Tesla in Australia and New Zealand, including Full Self-Driving (Supervised) and the recently launched Model 3 Rear-Wheel Drive," the spokesperson said. Tesla hasn't disclosed how many reservations were cancelled.
