Green NCAP gave the Berlin-built Tesla Model Y RWD five stars and an overall score of 93% in results published on Oct. 29, 2026. The European testing group said the car's lifecycle footprint of 95 g CO2-equivalent per km is the lowest it has published.
The scores
- Clean Air Index: 9.0 out of 10
- Energy Efficiency Index: 8.9
- Greenhouse Gas Index: 10 out of 10. Green NCAP gives full marks below 110 g per km.
Tesla shared lifecycle data with Green NCAP for the first time, the group said. For comparison, a Volkswagen Tayron tested in the same way scored 263 g per km, two and a half stars and 41%. The same round also covered the BYD Dolphin Surf, Suzuki e Vitara and a diesel VW Golf.
Energy use and charging
- 13.1 kWh/100 km on the WLTP cycle and 21.3 kWh/100 km on the highway
- 30.5 kWh/100 km at −7°C and 15.2 kWh/100 km in 35°C heat
- DC fast charging from 10% to 80% in 24 minutes
- 11 kW AC charging at 89% efficiency
The Model Y lost points because it cannot power outside devices or the grid (V2L or V2G). Green NCAP rated that area poor. The car weighs about 1.9 tonnes. About 150,000 European buyers chose the Model Y last year, the reports said.
