Tesla is recalling 19 2026 Model Y SUVs because bolts on a front suspension part may not have been tightened enough, according to NHTSA recall 26V558. The cars were built between July 26 and Aug. 4, 2026. Tesla estimates about 75% of them have the problem.

The risk

The bolts hold the front suspension lateral links to the sub-frame. If they are under-torqued, a link could come loose. That would change the wheel alignment and raise the risk of a crash. Owners might hear an unusual noise from the front suspension.

How Tesla found it

A car was flagged at the Fremont factory on Aug. 7. Tesla found that a controller (PLC) linked to the torque tool had been switched off on July 26. The bolts should be tightened to 135 Nm on North American cars and 190 Nm on cars for Europe, the Middle East, Africa and Asia-Pacific. The supplier is listed as Relyans Max Inc. Tesla filed its recall report on Aug. 31, 2026. Its internal bulletin number is SB-26-31-004.

The fix

  • Tesla will inspect and fix affected cars free of charge.
  • Owner letters are due to be mailed by Oct. 30, 2026.
  • Tesla says it knows of no crashes or injuries linked to the problem.

Owners can check their car on NHTSA's recall site or in the Tesla app.
