Florida's biggest city by area is on Tesla's Robotaxi list. Tesla has added Jacksonville to its Robotaxi map as "coming soon." The Robotaxi account posted on Oct. 21 that service was coming to Jacksonville, Las Vegas, Phoenix and San Antonio, News4JAX reported on Monday, Oct. 26, 2026.
What's known, and what isn't
- Tesla hasn't announced a launch date, operating area or fleet size for Jacksonville. The notice "does not confirm that Jacksonville has approved a service or that rides are imminent," News4JAX said.
- Florida law allows driverless vehicles without a human behind the wheel and stops local governments, Jacksonville included, from imposing their own fees, permits or rules, Action News Jax reported.
- Tesla already runs driverless Robotaxis in Miami, Orlando and Tampa. Last month Action News Jax reported that Tesla is coordinating with the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office.
The local backdrop
The Jacksonville Transportation Authority's autonomous NAVI shuttle service will pause on Jan. 1, 2027, when its software contract expires. The vehicles will switch to manual operation, which JTA expects to save about $487,000 a month. City Council member Rory Diamond has pushed for private robotaxis, including Waymo and Tesla. "It's mission critical for our city to have robotaxis and Waymos and similar autonomous taxi services," he told News4JAX. Residents interviewed by both stations had mixed feelings.
