Hybrids are still paying Toyota's bills, and robots are next. Toyota said on November 5 that consolidated net revenue for April through September rose 9.5% to 26.962 trillion yen ($169.6 billion). Operating income rose from 2.0056 trillion yen to 2.1911 trillion yen, and consolidated vehicle sales slipped by about 25,000 units to roughly 4.758 million.

For the fiscal year ending March 2027, Toyota now forecasts 9.70 million vehicle sales, 53.5 trillion yen in net revenue, 3.9 trillion yen in operating income and net income of 3.57 trillion yen. Transport Topics reports that the operating profit forecast is 15% higher than before and that quarterly earnings rose 34% on strong hybrid demand.

Toyota has also created a dedicated robotics department led by chief production officer Takefumi Shiga to speed up commercialization and deployment, Transport Topics reports. That puts Toyota alongside other automakers moving into robots, including Hyundai, which owns Boston Dynamics, and Tesla, with its Optimus humanoid.
