Lithuania's capital is electrifying its buses. Vilnius will deploy up to 161 new zero-emission buses and related charging infrastructure, supported by a €110 million financing package from the European Investment Bank (EIB) and the Council of Europe Development Bank (CEB).
Operator VVT will use the loans for new electric and hydrogen buses, 145 charging stations and depot upgrades, replacing older diesel and liquefied petroleum gas vehicles. The project is scheduled for completion by the end of 2027, Charged EVs reports.
«This financing enables us to carry out one of the most ambitious public transport modernization programs in VVT's history,» said VVT CEO Ignas Degutis. Separately, the EBRD and Nordic Investment Bank are supporting renewal of the city's trolleybus fleet.
