All seven finalists for Europe's Car of the Year 2027 are fully electric. The organizers say it is the first time in the award's 63-year history that no finalist has a combustion engine.

The finalists

  • BMW iX3
  • Cupra Raval
  • Hyundai Ioniq 3
  • Kia EV2
  • Renault Twingo
  • Volkswagen ID.Polo
  • Volvo EX60

The winner will take over from the Mercedes-Benz CLA, which won last year.

What happens next

The jury will test the seven cars at the Balocco circuit in Italy on Nov. 25 and 26. Jurors can vote until Dec. 31, each giving out 25 points across the finalists. The award will be presented on Jan. 8, 2027, at the Brussels Motor Show.

Small and cheap

Several finalists are small, affordable cars. Hyundai says the Ioniq 3, which was designed in Europe and is built in Izmit, Türkiye, starts below €30,000 across Europe and has up to 497 km of WLTP range in Long Range form. No Tesla made the list. The Model Y and Model 3 are much older designs, and Tesla does not yet sell a smaller, cheaper car in Europe to compete with the Ioniq 3, EV2 or ID.Polo.
