Nio's Firefly brand has added a 60 kWh battery option, raising the small hatchback's CLTC range to 560 km. Firefly says that is the longest in its segment.
Prices
- From 136,800 yuan with the battery included.
- From 79,800 yuan with a Battery-as-a-Service subscription, plus 599 yuan a month for the battery rental.
- The 42 kWh standard pack stays on sale.
The chemistry swap
The new pack uses NCM (ternary lithium) cells instead of LFP. Electrive says it comes from CATL and has the same dimensions and weight as the 42 kWh pack. Electrive puts the range at about 454 km WLTP, up from about 340 km.
Upgrades for current owners
Because the packs are the same size, existing Firefly owners can switch permanently at Nio's fifth-generation swap stations, Electrive reports:
- Owners who bought the battery can upgrade one year after purchase at the earliest, for 17,000 yuan. Early buyers who ordered by Oct. 22, 2026, and swap by the end of 2027 get a 2,000-yuan points credit.
- Battery renters pay a one-time 3,000-yuan service fee, and their monthly fee rises from 399 to 599 yuan. A limited-time voucher cuts the fee to 2,000 yuan for eligible first owners.
Firefly says it has delivered more than 90,000 cars since launch. An upgrade path for range like this is something Tesla does not offer, since its packs cannot be swapped. Firefly's place in Nio's sales is covered in our Nio Q3 story.
