Cybercabs were busier than ever in Austin on Halloween, and more of them are turning up outside Tesla's Robotaxi service area.

A Halloween record

  • CyberCab.News reports that community trackers logged 1,576 Cybercab sightings across Austin on Saturday, Oct. 31, an all-time high. 1,493 of them showed nobody in the driver's seat.
  • The previous record was 1,250, on the Saturday of the Formula 1 weekend at Circuit of the Americas. Halloween beat it by 26%.
  • Robotaxi Tracker reported that Cybercabs appeared in camera snapshots more often than Waymo every hour from noon to 7 p.m., peaking at 25.9 sightings per 1,000 snapshots at 4 p.m.

Robotaxi Radar warned that a Saturday Halloween is an event night, not a new baseline. Since Oct. 23, though, every day has topped 800 sightings.

Outside the zone

TeslaNorth, citing Robotaxi Tracker, reports that southwest Austin traffic cameras outside the service boundary logged 33 Cybercab sightings in the week of Oct. 26 to Nov. 1. Weekly totals went from 1 (week of Sept. 28) to 9, then 23, then 33. Of the 32 cameras outside the boundary, 21 caught at least one Cybercab. North of the zone, detections of engineering Cybercabs rose from zero a week in early October to 27 last week, along Anderson Mill, Parmer, Lakeline and Highway 620.

Both trackers stress that these are sightings, not unique vehicles. The Texas roster lists 573 Cybercabs among Tesla's 1,204 registered robotaxis. Tesla has not said whether the outer corridors will open to paying riders.
