Tesla's Robotaxi service opened in Fort Worth, Texas, at 6 a.m. Central on Monday, Nov. 2. Tesla's Robotaxi account announced it the night before: "Robotaxi available in Fort Worth starting tomorrow, 6am." As in Tesla's other Texas markets, rides have no human safety monitor in the car.
The service area
- About 143 square miles, centred on downtown Fort Worth. EVwire's own estimate from the map is about 142 square miles.
- It reaches Saginaw to the north, White Settlement to the west, Benbrook to the south, and runs along Haltom City and Forest Hill to the east.
- Not a Tesla App ranks it third among Tesla's unsupervised zones, behind Austin (272 square miles) and Houston (254). EVwire notes it is more than one and a half times the 81-square-mile zone in neighbouring Dallas.
Seventh unsupervised city
Fort Worth joins Austin, Dallas, Houston, Miami, Orlando and Tampa. Not a Tesla App says it is Tesla's first new Robotaxi city in about three months, and that Fort Worth was not on the lists Tesla had shared of upcoming cities, which most recently named Las Vegas, Phoenix, Jacksonville and San Antonio.
The launch comes about a week after Tesla grew its Houston zone almost tenfold, from about 25 to 254 square miles. Tesla also recently extended Robotaxi hours in Austin to 2 a.m. Fort Worth starts with Model Y vehicles. Tesla has said Cybercab rides will start in Dallas this month.
